Introverts...what are they good for?
The world is not made for introverts. The world loves extroverts. How can an introvert happily prosper in a world that values extroversion and assertive people? No one ever says after meeting a quiet person “oh she is such a firecracker! She will make a great administrator”. No, the introverts are deemed lazy or too timid to accomplish anything great. Or maybe it is just because I have no input for the conversation…that is probably it. What in the hell goes on in my brain all day?
Where in the world will I be of use as an introverted shy person who is not assertive? Lord, who would want something like that as a nurse? I often think that if I am accepted to the nursing program, everyone that I work with now will think “oh Lord I hope I never have her as my nurse! She won’t know what to do!” The only time that I am extroverted is when I drink and we all know that I can’t be drunk on the job.
Will I always be this way? Why did I have to be made to think and feel this way?
I want to be one of those who mouths off at every opportunity about how things should be done and for people to actually think that I do know what I am talking about.
I need a brain transplant or something. I must have been a plant or a rock in a previous life.

different personalities are needed... an extroverted nurse would make me feel steamrolled in many situations. As long as you're friendly that puts the patient at ease.... I say this as someone who had a WIDE range of peeps help me at UT Physicians.
Or you can do what so many of us introverts do when beer is not available... fake it 'til you make it. Put on a fake personality to get through it and you end up warming up at your introverted pace underneath. I have to do this nearly every weekend since no beer is allowed.
